Summer’s outlook may be limited to city living and weekend escapes for the foreseeable future, but a playful straw tote is sure to bring the holiday vibe to your everyday stylemadebywave’s SS/20 ‘Twist’ accessories collection launched in June with a whole new summer beach campaign shot on the sun-drenched beaches of Cornwall.

Straw bags are leading the way again and their mini square designs can be styled cross-body for days on the go. Handcrafted from raffia, they come with pretty fringe detailing and are big enough to store your essentials – whether it be dressing for holiday season or summer in the city.

All of the bags are handcrafted, beaded and are ethically sourced from Indonesia, with madebywave founder Victoria Bakir working in partnership with artisan communities based there.

I am delighted to launch our new ‘Twist’ bag collection. It was fun creating this summer’s designs, which are inspired by our beaded stick-shaped charms from one of our earlier collections. For this season, I wanted to bring more simple and organic elements into the designs, and ‘twisting’ the beading together felt like a natural evolution, I feel that the entwined beading plays on symbiotic relationships that we can observe in the natural world.

Our bags embody the essence of carefree fun and adventurous travel. Combining traditional Indonesian craftsmanship with the modern aesthetics of a global traveller is the standard for a label like ourselves, that celebrates living an authentic life in colour.

This season, we’ve increased our range of Mini square bags, which are perfect to take your outfit from day-to-night, with different colour variations of beading, and our staple-piece – the black straw shoulder bag. There are also other styles in different designs and sizes, notably our ever-popular beach bags of course.

I hope you enjoy the collection, it’s one of my favourites to date. I look forward to seeing how the new pieces will be styled.” – Victoria Bakir, Designer & Founder, madebywave.
