Style of the City has compiled a list of some of the best family days out around the Cardiff area. From theatre shows to grotto experiences, take a look at some of the most festive activities happening in the lead up to Christmas.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast

The Disney magic comes to Cardiff this December. The enchanting musical will be performed at the Welsh Millennium Centre from December 9th to January 15th. Children will love to watch their favourite Disney film come to life on stage, while adults are sure to fall in love with it all over again. With music and lyrics from Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice, this is not one to be missed.

A relaxed performance will take place on the 11th of January at 5 pm to allow a more friendly and exclusive viewing of the show.

 Santa and Elf Dash

Head down to Cardiff Bay on the 5th of December to see hundreds of Santa’s and elf’s run to raise money for Calon, a leading charity in Wales providing heart screenings, defibrillators, and CPR training to Welsh communities. Why not take part in the run? You can walk or run, or just have fun. Festivities begin at 10 am and the run kicks off at 12 pm at Roald Dahl Pass.

Santa’s virtual tea party, Celtic Manor Resort

From the 27th of November to the 24th of December, head to the Celtic Manor Resort in the Usk Valley to enjoy an afternoon tea in the (virtual) company of Santa himself. Starting at £35 for adults and £25 for children, guests will enter the Caernarfon Suite and become immersed in a festive wonderland. The elves will be sure to make your experience exciting and fun, giving each child a small gift.

Believe at St David’s

Get ready to meet Santa’s most adorable reindeer, Norbert. This year, St David’s Cardiff will become host to Santa and his friends. Children will help make some reindeer food, ready for Christmas Eve. After meeting with Santa, each child will receive an age-appropriate book to take home.

Santa’s Victorian Christmas at Cardiff Castle

Why not combine festive fun with an interactive history lesson? Visit Cardiff Castle to experience a Victorian Christmas. You’ll tour the castle, learning all about the ways that Christmas would have been celebrated over a century ago. Kids will love the treasure hunt and the private meeting with Santa. Each child gets a gift, and everyone gets entry to the lantern trail around the castle grounds.
