Style of the City reviews the highly anticipated relaxed performance of Madagascar The Musical, at Wales Millennium Centre, on August 8th 2019.
Based on the smash-hit DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar The Musical brought to life the infamous characters of Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip-hip Hippo and those hilarious, plotting penguins as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo, all the way to the mystical island of Madagascar. This performance showcased X Factor’s Matt Terry as Alex the lion, who perfected every note from the musical. The relaxed performance was designed for children, young people or adults who may have disabilities, additional support needs and those on the autistic spectrum. However, the performance was open to all. We attended the matinee performance and absolutely loved every aspect of the musical.
This particular performance made a number of sensory adjustments, such as lowering sound levels, brighter lights and a less formal setting for the audience to move around during the production; however, the performance was as professional to any other we have attended.
The musical presented spectacular singing vocals, high-energy, magnificent costumes and technical dancing. The performance allowed the audience to connect with each character individually, especially in the second-half performance, which contained most of the plot action.
Madagascar the Musical will be performing at Wales Millennium Centre until Sunday the 11thof August. Tickets begin at £16.
