Last Friday, the Celtic Manor Resort saw the launch of their Great Skate event, a new festive experience which is perfect for the whole family, running until 6th January to ensure you can enjoy the festive spirit all through the magical season. We were lucky enough to attend the launch night which really got us into the Christmassy spirit and wanted to share this fabulous and magical event with you.
At the Great Skate, guests can enjoy the beautiful glistening ice-rink set in the Resort’s beautiful rooftop garden, lit up by bright lights and with Christmas music in the background. This really is the perfect and hilarious event for all the family, where everyone can enjoy slipping and sliding over the ice. Whether you’re a pro or a complete amateur, this is an experience full of laughter and fun. Also supplying push-along penguins and seals for your littlest ones to sit on and be slid around, Celtic Manor’s Great Skate ensures that no one has to be left out of the fun.
After skating (or attempting to skate!), you can enjoy a selection of traditional sizzling foods from the Bratwurst hut which serves Traditional German Bratwurst hotdogs, Beef Burgers and many sweet treats, including Belgium waffles and Pretzels. The Bratwurst were delicious, cooked on an open grill and served accompanied by onions and cabbage in a soft bread roll which really topped off the experience. If the skating got you a bit chilly, you can indulge in a delicious hot chocolate. I had the Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolate which was served with lashings of cream and marshmallows and warmed me to the core after my skate. The bar also serves hot mulled wine which is bound to get you feeling Christmassy, along with a selection of other alcoholic cocktails and drinks and soft cold and hot drinks too.
We enjoyed our delicious treats whilst sitting under beautiful stars and Christmas lights, watching other families and couples skate and listening to the brilliant live music supplied by a talented duo playing a selection of upbeat and well-known songs and having a joke along with each other.
It was a fabulous family-friendly and festive atmosphere; the perfect experience to spend with your loved ones, friends and family alike and really get you in the mood for the festive season. For families who would like the chance to meet magical fairytale characters on the rink or those who want to want to enjoy a late-night skating session, there are additional upgrade packages available.
