After an MRI scan revealed she had more than 20 lesions on her brain in August 2018, actress Selma Blair was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) after years of suffering with the symptoms.

She went public with her diagnosis in the October with an Instagram post. In the post, from the set of her upcoming Netflix series ‘Another Life’, Selma thanked several of her friends, crew and producers on ‘Another Life’ and told her followers thatI have MS and I am ok.”

According to the NHS Multiple Sclerosis is a condition that can ‘affect the brain and/or spinal cord, causing a wide range of potential symptoms, including problems with vision, arm or leg movement, sensation or balance.’ It’s estimated there are around 127,000 people currently diagnosed with MS in the UK.

Recently, Blair made her first public appearance since revealing her diagnosis when she attended the Vanity Fair Oscars After Party. Selma took to the red carpet wearing a colourful Ralph & Russo gown and cape, along with a customised patent leather cane which she said made her “burst into tears”.

Following her red carpet triumph, Blair sat down with Good Morning America and Vanity Fair, respectively, to talk openly and honestly about her condition.

During her filmed interview with Good Morning America Blair spoke with a noticeable vocal tremor and explained to GMA anchor Robin Roberts that she was in an “exacerbation” of MS –  a period where sufferers can develop new symptoms or existing symptoms worsen.

However, the actress, most well known for her roles in ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘Cruel Intentions’, remains positive and is hoping to help others through her diagnosis. She recalled the moment she was diagnosed, saying “I had tears. They weren’t tears of panic. They were tears of knowing I now had to give in to a body that had lost of control, and there was some relief in that.”
She continued in her interview with Vanity Fair saying there’s no tragedy for me…I’m happy, and if I can help anyone be more comfortable in their skin, it’s more than I’ve ever done before.”

During her GMA interview Blair described the moment she had to explain her illness to her seven-year-old son Arthur best replica rolex day date 36mm 118139 l mens blue dial automatic review.

I said, ‘I have something called multiple sclerosis.’ And he almost cried and said, ‘Will it kill you?’ ”
“And I said, ‘No. I mean, we never know what kills us, Arthur. But this is not the doctor telling me I’m dying,’ ” Blair continued. “And he was like, ‘Oh, OK,’ and that was it.” She said that it wasn’t difficult to tell her son and explained “I always want him to feel safe, never responsible for me, but he had already seen that I was falling and doing [different] things, and I was always laughing.”

That’s not to say she hasn’t had hard times since being diagnosed. She told Robin Roberts that some days she just has to go to bed and be okay with that. She said “My son gets it and now I’ve learnt not to feel guilty.”

The star admitted to Vanity Fair that “dressing is a sh*t show” due to her limited mobility caused by her condition. But she has come up with an idea for a solution that could help thousands of people.
She said “I would like to partner with someone like Christian Siriano on a line for everyone—not just people who necessarily need adaptive clothing, but for those who want comfort, too .. it can still be chic. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice style. Like, let’s get elastic waistbands to look a little bit better.”

The awareness Blair has raised for MS cannot be underestimated, and many people have come out and praised her honesty. However, she doesn’t want this to define her and is determined to continue working for as long as possible tropico 6 fun happiness.
