Style of the City reviews Llangoed Hall Hotel, the magnificent mansion that is situated in the idyllic Wye Valley, Brecon.

Upon arrival, we were instantly greeted by the friendly and helpful staff who lead us into reception, which immediately set the tone of our stay. We received a tour of the Edwardian mansion, where each room offers a different interior, inspired by Edwardian patterns, original artwork and letters from past prime ministers hanging on the wall. Along the wide corridor, there are numerous drawing-rooms (one is inspired completely by Laura Ashley’s interior) and a games room, which was a perfect retreat from the rain during our stay.

In the evening we experienced intimate fine dining at the main restaurant. The food is sourced from the freshest and finest local ingredients with fruit and vegetables from the hotel’s very own kitchen garden. We tried the tasting menu, from £90 per person, that offers nine exquisite dishes, which varies from light bites to mains and a couple of desserts

Snacks & Bread – Smoked Sea Salt Butter/ Hummus
Artichoke – Burrata/ Seeds/ Green House Salad
Egg – Slow Cooked Llangoed Egg/ Wild Garlic/ Broad Beans

Prawn – Satay miso/ Papaya/ Puffed Wild Rice
Lamb – Welsh Lamb/ Girolles/ baby Gem/ Goats Curd
Cheese – Black Bomber/ Toastie/ Truffle Honey
Plum – Yoghurt Mousse/ Wood Sorrel
Strawberry – Mascarpone/ White Chocolate/ Nitro
Rum Baba

The next day, we again dined in the main restaurant where we had a selection of breakfast options to choose from. We both opted for the smoked salmon with scrambled egg on sourdough, followed by a variety of patisseries and fruit; it was delicious!

Laura Ashley inspired drawing-room

With a few hours to relax and enjoy our stay, we ventured through the grounds for a leisurely stroll among the hotel’s perfectly manicured grounds. The outdoor chessboard or the hotel’s very own maze is the perfect way to spend your afternoon; however, due to the heavy rain, we made our way to the hotel’s game room, where we played a few games of snooker and enjoyed the peace and quiet, by reading next to the fireplace.

Llangoed Hall’s Full Afternoon Tea

We then returned to the restaurant, where we were seated by a beautiful bay window with views of the grounds, to experience their Full Afternoon Tea, from £26 per person. The menu included freshly made finger sandwiches, home-made scones and patisserie served with fruit preserve, clotted cream, tea and coffee.

The hotel also offers other Afternoon Tea’s, such as its Laura Ashley Full Afternoon Tea with a Glass of Elderflower Champagne, from £36 per person. Or its Afternoon G&T Full Afternoon Tea using Gin Jam with a glass of Pinkster Gin and Tonic, from £36 per person.

For a peaceful and refreshing weekend, be sure to visit Llangoed Hall Hotel.
