Style of the City’s Angharad Thomas, reviews the most extravagant show to date, Kinky Boots. The Queens of Drag are back until August 3rd 2019 at Wales Millennium Centre, in Cardiff Bay.
I began the evening indulging with endless amount of canapés and prosecco, with the opportunity to meet members of the cast, sprinkled with glitter and tried on those bright red kinky boots!
The glitz, the glamour, the drag queens… Kinky Boots performance at the Wales Millennium Centre surpassed all expectations with the outstanding performances, spectacular signing and hilarious comedy factor from the get-go. The Broadway musical, Kinky Boots, is based on the 2005 British film, written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth, with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper and the book by Harvey Fierstein, illustrates the most unlikely friendship between Charlie Price and Lola.
The hit musical, that was inspired by true events, shows how the unlikely duo were able to save Charlie’s family business, by creating shoes that no one had ever seen before on a Milan catwalk; high-heeled shoes, made for Drag Queens. The joyous show takes you from the factory floor of Northampton to the glamourous catwalks of Milan.
However, the spectacular show is more than just Drag Queens, it also highlights what it truly means to be a man in today’s society, whilst also touching on important issues such as acceptance of others and brining completely opposite communities together as one.
For ladies, gentlemen and those who have yet to make up their minds, Kinky Boots is the ultimate night-out to experience joy and laughter in Cardiff Bay this week!
