Clogau Jewellery opened a brand-new store in Merthyr Tydfil, much to shoppers’ delight.

It’s been a busy time for popular TV personality and long-standing Clogau brand ambassador Gethin Jones, who wielded the giant scissors at the opening ceremony for the Welsh jewellery brand’s latest Boutique in Merthyr Tydfil.

Aside from cutting ribbons on Clogau’s ever-expanding roster of bricks-and-mortar Boutiques – which now stands 14-strong in addition to two outlet stores – the Morning Live presenter has been filming for the company’s Christmas 2023 TV advertisement, which can now be seen on commercial channels throughout the festive season.

It’s the first instalment of a series of narrative-driven ads that will continue their story around Valentine’s Day and beyond and feature Gethin as the TV dad who must deal with the arrival of his screen daughter’s new love interest. Speaking at the opening of the Merthyr store at Cyfarthfa Shopping Park, Gethin said:

It was great fun filming with Clogau’s creative team, and it made an interesting change of pace from live television. We shot two ads in two days, which was quite intense, but after my 24-hour danceathon (performed in aid of this year’s Red Nose Day), anything else seemed like a piece of cake“.

I’m really looking forward to finding out what TV audiences think of my acting skills, she said.

Clogau Managing Director Ben Roberts added: “We’re delighted to share our wonderful jewellery and fascinating story with the people of Merthyr Tydfil. It’s important to offer customers the chance to experience Clogau in person and really convey the high-quality craftsmanship to a degree that just isn’t possible through our online store. Equally as important, we can tell the Clogau story in a more personal fashion – and it’s our story that really underpins what we do.”

Clogau’s fascinating origins, beginning with Bill Roberts’ discovery of an abandoned gold mine in the Snowdonia mountains in the 1980s, are on display at the Merthyr Boutique via the intriguing, innovative Clogau Storybook. Created using a ceiling-mounted projector beaming an image onto a plinth-mounted sculptural “book”, the Clogau Storybook tells the story of the Clogau brand from its fortuitous foundation to the thriving jewellery retailer of modern times. To “turn the pages”, visitors wave their hands over a motion sensor which switches the images back and forth. Visual Merchandising Manager Sonja Adams came across the idea in Germany. She said:

“I was immediately struck by how the interactivity was engaging visitors, and I couldn’t wait to try something similar in Clogau’s stores. The Merthyr Boutique is the first to get a Clogau Storybook, but we’ll be introducing them in some of our other stores very soon!

It isn’t only the brand’s brick-and-mortar stores which are continually developing. It’s been a busy period for the designers working behind the scenes on new jewellery, especially with Christmas on the horizon – traditionally the firm’s busiest time of year.

As well as the luxurious 12 Days of Clogau Gift Box (as shown in our gift guide, page 17), with its dozen drawers each containing a piece of Clogau jewellery or a high-end accessory, the company has released two Christmas-themed ranges. The Clogau® Christmas Tree and Clogau® Christmas Bow collections are crafted from sterling silver and white topaz, adding serious extra sparkle to your festive gifting.

Ben said: Clogau is the perfect choice for Christmas gifts, as we are known for creating jewellery with a timeless style that never goes out of fashion and offering pieces that reflect current trends for a younger audience.”
