Community lifting event to promote learning of male mental health and suicide prevention

My Discombobulated Brain is proud to announce the launch of their STRONG>SICK event in partnership with Synergi Weightlifting, on Saturday 16th February 2019.

My Discombobulated Brain is a charity that aims to challenge the stigma allied with mental health head-on while offering a source of support and education to those who are affected by these issues. The charity came from the experience of what it was like to watch someone you love, and personally, go through mental health issues including the stigma that goes alongside it.

Set up by Laura Dernie, a freelance Personal Assistant from Cardiff, a 30 something mother of 2, who after losing her best friend Jon at 18 to suicide, then suffering from mental health issues during and after both her pregnancies, she started My Discombobulated Brain.

STRONG>SICK is a communal lifting event that will be in aid of raising funds to support the filming of My Discombobulated Brains documentary film project to help raise consciousness, and education on the topic of male mental health, and suicide prevention. Men currently make up three quarters of all suicides in the UK, and we are facing an epidemic. But we truly believe that with your help – we can make a difference.

The day will consist of condensed training sessions where all the participants will be striving to achieve 27,000kg lifted over the entire day. This is roughly equivalent to the number of men that have lost their lives by suicide in the last five years in the UK. You will have the opportunity to participate with lifters of all levels in the snatch, clean and jerk, back squat, bench press, and deadlift to help us achieve this amazing goal. All while enjoying talks from our guest speakers, as well as food and merchandise from sponsors and vendors.
