Here are a list of activities happening bank holiday weekend commencing the 6th-8th of May.

 

  • Watch the Coronation live on the big screen

Cardiff Castle will host a large screen live broadcasting the coronation of King Charles III. You won’t need a ticket to watch this historic event. All you need to do is bring your own picnic blanket or chair, sit back, and relax.

  • Right Royal picnic 

 

Cardiff Castle is opening its door again for the second day of coronation celebrations with a picnic. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own food and picnic blankets and settle in for an afternoon of live music and entertainment. Entry to the castle grounds and the picnic is free and everyone is welcome.

  • Foodies Festival for the Coronation Weekend

Culinary event Foodies Festival which boasts celebrity chefs, delicious food and good music is a three-day celebration in Bute Park. Families can enjoy recipes from Michelin-starred chefs as well as Great British Bake Off celebrities. There will be cooking classes for children and cocktail and wine tasting for adults.


The festival also promises a musical line-up with acts including Scouting For Girls, Toploader and Callum Beattie. There are individual and family tickets available ranging from £21 for a single adult and £45 for a family ticket. Find out more here.

  • Llandaff North coronation party

The Llandaff North community centre is offering a coronation party for children on Bank Holiday Monday. With a bouncy castle, sweets and cakes and coronation-themed crafts, it’s a fun activity for all the family. Tickets are £7 per child but accompanying adults go free.

  • Radyr and Morganstown Party in the Park

Radyr and Morganstown Community Council will be hosting a coronation Park in Radyr Primary School. There’ll be a picnic, BBQ and bar, circus performances and circus skills workshops for the family as well as performances from local bands.

  • Peterstone Big Lunch

Peterstone Community Council’s Big Lunch is a chance for the community to get together for a bring- your-own-picnic event. The event is free and open to everyone with no booking required, just rock up and party on.

When: Sunday, May 7, 2-5pm

Vale of Glamorgan

  • Coronation Fireworks in Penarth

To celebrate the crowning of a new monarch, Penarth Pier are hosting a fireworks display from 9pm. The display is free and open to the public and will be visible from Penarth Esplanade as they sparkle over the Bristol Channel.

  • Dinys Powys Street Party

Murchfield community centre is opening its doors to a community street party. Promising afternoon tea, live music, and activities and with tickets only £5, it’s a great day for the whole family.

Swansea

Swansea council said around a dozen streets around the city have requested road closures for the coronation for street parties.

 

  • Mumbles Coronation Street Party

Expect choirs, dinosaurs(!), street food, drink, games, music and fair ground rides.

When: May 7, 11am-6pm

  • Llangennith picnic and carnival

Llangennith Hall are packing a punch with a picnic lunch with a bouncy castle, fancy dress and face painting followed by music and entertainment until late at The Kings Head pub. This is a free event and everyone is welcome to come along.

Valleys

  • Tonteg Community Centre’s Children’s Coronation Party

Tonteg Community Centre is putting on a coronation party on Sunday complete with entertainment and refreshments. No tickets or booking is required so turn up and enjoy.

  • Foregeside RFC Community Garden, Blaenavon

Forgeside RFC are hosting a garden party complete with a craft market, garden games, yoga and street food, all accompanied by live music going on into the evening.

  • Penarth PIER CORONATION FIREWORKS: May 6, 2023/May 6, 2023 at 9pm.

  • Foodies Festival is coming to Cardiff for the Coronation Bank Holiday weekend: Foodies Festival, the UK’s biggest touring celebrity food and music festival, is coming to Wales for the very first time with a celebration fit for a king. Foodies will be visiting Cardiff from 6th – 8th May (Kings Coronation Bank Holiday Weekend), serving up a star-studded line-up of celebrity chefs and chart-topping music stars, including Scouting For Girls, Toploader, Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club and rapidly rising Scottish singer-songwriter, Callum Beattie.
